Giuliana Olmos, first Mexican to reach a final in Acapulco

Acapulco, Gro, 1 de marzo.- Giuliana Olmos made history at Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC, after getting to the WTA doubles final, with her teammate Desirae Krawczyk.

Olmos and Krawzcyk defeated in the semifinals Crnelia Lister and Renata Voracova, in two sets (7-5, 7-6(3)) during the first match at Caliente Grand Stand.

Showing great chemistry, the mexican-american doubles team, broke their rival´s serve to win the first set. The second set was even in both sides of the court, with two breaks per side, this time the set was defined in the tie break, Giuliana showed dominance with her serve.

She turned into the first mexican to get to the final of the AMT.

This is the second time the doubles team will play a final in a WTA event, last year they also got to the finals in Monterrey, where they lost to Sara Sorribes and Naomi Broady.
Giuliana Olmos, 78 in the doubles ranking, and Desirae Krawczyk, no. 50, have been playing together for two years now, this has been their best outcome yet.

“I’m really happy, I also got to the final in Monterrey, but I want to win a WTA title, this is my third final, I have experience enough. Desirae has been my teammate for two years, she is amazing, I am really proud, but we want more, we know each other very well, she is my best friend, so I trust her in the court”, said the Mexican tennis player.

During the last season, Olmos played for the first time in Wimbledon, this was her debut in a Grand Slam tournament.

“I only started playing doubles because I needed the money to play singles, but then I won 8 doubles tournaments in one year. I want to play doubles in the Olympics, I know its hard but for now i’ll enjoy the final tomorrow, let see what happens”, said Giuliana.

The other team in the final will be Victoria Azarenka and Saisai Zheng, in turn, they defeated for the ticket to the final, the pair of Sharon Fichman and Maria Sanchez.

After losing the first set in tie break and winning the second, also in tie break, Azarenka and Zheng had to play a super tiebreak to get their sport in the finals of the tournament. The final score was 6-7 (3), 6-2 y 13-11.

Azarenka, former no. 1 in the world, will play the a doubles final number 17 in her career occasion and is looking her seventh title.

Saisai Zheng, its playing a final for seventh time and is looking for the fourth title in doubles.
