The Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC 2024 kicks off with the qualy round.

  • This Saturday 10 matches will be played, 8 singles and two doubles, with Mexicans Alan Rubio Fierros and Hans Hach Verdugo looking for their pass to the main draw.

Acapulco, February 24, 2024.- The XXXI edition of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC, being played this week in Acapulco, begins its activity this Saturday with the start of the qualifying tournament, which will give four tickets to the main draw.

Among the players who will be looking for a ticket to the main draw are: Italian Flavio Cobolli (1), Australians Aleksandar Vukic (2) and Rinky Hijikata (3) and Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, as the top four seeds for the qualy.

The qualifying tournament also features the presence of Australians Thanasi Kokkinakis and James Duckworth, Americans Brando Holt, Zachary Svajda, Aleksandar Kovacevic and Michael Mmoh and the only Mexican in the qualy, Alan Rubio Fierros.

In the first matches, Cobolli will face Holt; Svajda against Duckworth, Nishioka against Rubio Fierros and Colombian Nicolas Mejia against Kovacevic.

The four remaining matches are Vukic against Frenchman Terence Atmane, Mmoh-Kokkinakis, Briton Liam Broady against Frenchman Constant Lestiene and Hijikata against Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki.

In doubles, four pairs are looking for a pass to the main doubles draw, Mexican Hans Hach Verdugo and Venezuelan Luis David Martinez play against Swedish Andre Goransson and French Lestiene, while British Daniel Evans and Henry Patten play against Italian Cobolli and American Kovacevic.

The Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC in its XXXI edition, to be played from February 26 to March 2 in Acapulco, will feature ten players ranked in the Top 20 of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings and four of them are in the Top 10.

Germany’s Alexander Zverev (No.6), Denmark’s Holger Rune (No.7), Australia’s Alex de Miñaur (No.11), reigning champion of the tournament, and American Taylor Fritz (No.10) headline the list of players.

They are joined by Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.11), Norwegian Casper Ruud (No.12), Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (No.13) and Americans Tommy Paul (No.14) -finalist in 2023, Frances Tiafoe (No.15), and Ben Shelton (No.16), as well as Briton Cameron Norrie (No.23).
