Fritz and Tiafoe join the XXXII edition of the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL presented by HSBC in Acapulco.

Mexico City, November 25, 2024.- The Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC, to be played from February 24 to March 1, 2025 inAcapulco, boasts eight players within the Top 25 of the PIF ATP Rankings. 

Mextenis, in charge of organizing the tournament, announced that the semifinalists of the last edition of the US Open in September, Americans Taylor Fitz (No. 4) and Frances Tiafoe (No. 18), will join the XXXII edition of the ATP 500. Thatbattle between two of the best talents of recent years was won by Fritz in five sets. 

With the arrival of the Californian, the tournament will have three players in the worldTop 10: the 2021 champion, Alexander Zverev (No. 2), Fritz (No. 4), recent finalist at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, and the 2024 finalist, Casper Ruud (No. 8). 

The two Americans join the six previously announced players: Alexander Zverev (No.2), Taylor Fritz (No.4), Casper Ruud (No.6), Tommy Paul (No.12), Holger Rune (No. 12), Lorenzo Mussetti (No.17), Frances Tiafoe (No.18) and Ben Shelton (No.21).

“Fritz and Tiafoe round out a particularly attractive list of players, with eight players in the top 25 in the world. We are sure that these players have a strong following among Mexican fans,” said Alvaro Falla, CEO of Mextenis, and reminded that the final list of players will be announced at the end of January 2025.

Fritz recently played in the final of the Masters Tournament against Italian Jannik Sinner (No.1) and Tiafoe reached the top four at the US Open. 

Fritz finished the season with a 51-23 record and captured two titles atEas tbourne (grass) and Delray Bech (hard) to bring his career total to eight. He also accumulated eight finals, one of them in Acapulco in 2020 when he lost to Rafael Nadal. 

Tiafoe, on the other hand, registered a 33-26 record in the season and although he left without titles, he showed what he is capable of at the US Open.
