Four Top 10 at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC in Acapulco

  • The ATP 500 made official the list of players that will take place in Acapulco for the XXXII edition
  • Zverev, Fritz, Ruud and Paul headline the draw that boasts eight players inside the Top 20

Mexico City, January 28, 2025. – The Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC is back with eight players inside the Top 20 of the PIF ATP Rankings after releasing the official list of players for the XXXII edition to be held from February 24 to March 1, 2025 in Acapulco. 

The 32-player field is headed by recent Australian Open finalist Alexander Zverev (No. 2), and also features Nitto ATP Finals finalist Taylor Fritz (No. 4), as well as Casper Ruud (No. 5), Tommy Paul (No. 9), Holger Rune (No. 12), Ben Shelton (No. 14), Lorenzo Mussetti (No. 17) and Frances Tiafoe (No. 18).

The 2021 AMT champion, German Zverev, and the 2024 back to back finalist in Los Cabos and Acapulco, Norwegian Ruud, start as favorites due to their record in the country, however, after the evolution of different players such as Fritz and Tiafoe who starred in a semifinal at the last US Open, Paul who debuts as Top 10 this 2025, together with the bronze medalist in Paris, Italian Mussetti, a competitive week is expected at the GNP Seguros Arena.

Poland’s highest-ranked player in the history of his country, Hubert Hurkacz (No. 21), joins the tournament and as part of the group of American players are also Sebastian Korda (No. 22), Alex Michelsen (No. 36), Brandon Nakashima (No. 40) and Marcos Giron (No. 43), so Acapulco will have the best eight talents of this country, along with the Brisbane finalist, Reilly Opelka, who enters with a protected ranking.

The trio of Italians Flavio Cobolli (No. 34), Matteo Arnaldi (No. 40), as well as the young Czechs, Tomas Machac (No. 25), 24, and Jakub Mensik (No. 48), 19, close the Top 50 of the ATP 500.

Canadian Denis Shapovalov (No. 53), with his one-handed backhand, also returns to Acapulco. While on the Mexican side, Rodrigo Pacheco will be present again looking to have a good participation in the home tournament.

“We are going through a stage in world tennis in which new talents are emerging and we are proud to be able to count on so many young players for this edition, which will undoubtedly be very competitive with eight Top 20 players,” said Alvaro Falla, CEO of Mextenis, during the last press conference prior to the start of the XXXII edition.

Mextenis, in charge of organizing the tournament, announced that Acapulco continues its economic recovery after the passage of hurricanes Otis and John, but the destination has increased its hotel capacity in recent months.
