  • The Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC is proud of a historic participation of Mexicans in singles and doubles.
  • Mextenis also boasts tournament attendance and estimates close to 85% capacity for the finals
  • Acapulco expects over 92% hotel occupancy for AMT weekend

Acapulco, February 27, 2025.- Mextenis is proud of an unexpected quarterfinals with four Mexican representatives between singles and doubles, and boasts that for the weekend of the tournament, which is living its XXXII edition, there will be a hotel occupancy of 92%.

“Not to forget what we were all concerned about and occupied us from the beginning: Acapulco. Today Acapulco is back, today Acapulco has full hotels, full restaurants and is on its feet, after Otis, after John and we are going to have for this weekend a hotel occupancy close to 92%. We went back from having 19 thousand rooms before Otis, to more than 2 thousand last year and today we are close to 15 thousand,” assured Director of Operations Jose Antonio Fernandez at a press conference.

The Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC is one of Acapulco’s recovery engines, it generates 11 thousand direct and indirect jobs and represents between 10 and 15% of the annual income of the sector in the state, according to information from the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Simón Quiñones.

In addition, the tournament is going through a historic week with four national tennis players in the quarterfinals: Rodrigo Pacheco in singles and Santiago González, Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela and Hans Hach Verdugo in doubles. It has a guaranteed Mexican doubles player in the semifinals and will have an unprecedented champion.

“We started on Monday, February 24 with honors to the flag and today the Mexican flag is flying more than ever, having so many Mexicans on Thursday. Since 2011 we had not had a local win a first round singles match in Acapulco with Santiago Gonzalez. Today Rodrigo is among the top 250 in the world, it’s wonderful,” he added.

Both directors highlighted the achievements of the tennis players installed in the third round and emphasized the quality of extraordinary young players who are starting with firm steps in the circuit.

“There is no concern that anything out of the ordinary is happening or that worries us from a viral point of view. We’ve had a very good week and this sometimes happens in tournaments. The week is still very important for Acapulco and it is incredible to have so many Mexicans” highlighted Alvaro Falla, CEO of Mextenis and tournament director.

“It’s not the first, nor will it be the last time” added Fernandez about the exits of the top seeds of the ATP 500. “Each tournament tells a different story and we have several positives to highlight this year.”

He remarked that the players who dropped out have already made their positions known about the tournament and that they hope to return stronger for the next edition as it is one of their favorite stops on the ATP Tour.
