  • Semifinals at the AMT 2025 are set; Tomas Machac-Brandon Nakashima and Denis Shapovalov-Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina will face each other.

Acapulco, February 27, 2025.- Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, World No. 48, defeated Mexico’s Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez in the quarterfinals and eliminated him from the XXXII edition of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC.

The Spaniard, with more experience in matches against strong opponents in the ATP Tour, defeated the Mexican, who was reaching the quarterfinals of a circuit tournament for the first time, 6-2, 6-2.

In the first set, Davidovich-Fokina, 25 years old, broke Pacheco, 19 years old, three times, in the first, fifth and seventh games, defending his serve three times, although the Mexican broke him once, for the 6-2.

The court of the Arena GNP Seguros had a good entrance to support Pachecco, but the poise and the good tennis of the Spaniard was extinguishing the euphoria of the Mexican fans. The Spaniard closed the match in 68 minutes.

In the second set, both defended their serve to reach 2-2 and in the fifth game the Spaniard broke the Mexican and kept his serve for 4-2 in his favor and was on his way to win by adding another break to serve for the match and 6-2 against the Mexican.

Pacheco will have to take the positives out of the defeat, while Davidovich-Fokina will face Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who beat American Marcos Giron, in the semifinals.

“For me it was a very good week. It has been the best week of my whole life, there were many emotions, yes I enjoyed it, I feel like I’m dreaming, but I think I lacked to believe it a little bit more, but this helps me to keep growing,” said Pacheco.
