Casper Ruud arrives in Acapulco in search of another title

  • The two-time Roland Garros finalist returns to Acapulco in search of his 15th ATP title
  • The Norwegian is the active tennis player with the most victories on clay since 2020

Mexico City, December 22, 2025.- It’s no secret that Casper Ruud grew up in tennis admiring Rafael Nadal’s talent up close. He trained in Spain, at the legend’s academy, and in 2025, with the most important title of his career at the Madrid Masters 1000, he finally deserves to be called the “heir” on clay.

It wasn’t Carlos Alcaraz, nor Alexander Zverev. Ruud has led the list of top winners on clay since 2020. Let’s not forget that two of his three Grand Slam finals were at Roland Garros and 12 of his 14 titles are on clay, but his last trophy in Stockholm was on hard court, so Casper has known how to prepare for transitions from one surface to another to get the most out of his tennis.

Su crecimiento ha sido constante a pesar de lesiones y en entrevista para el diario El País reflexiona sobre su estilo de juego en una era en que el deporte se ha hecho más veloz

“I’ve won many matches without being super aggressive, trying to play intelligently, more slowly, with crosscourt shots, opening up the court. I like rallying and playing from the baseline. I like the slower game.”

Passionate about golf, the world No. 12 in tennis, who once ranked No. 2, even has an Instagram account to share content about his other passion. In 2024, in Barcelona, he won his first ATP 500 title. The third time was the charm after losing two finals, including Acapulco that same year.

Despite his success, 2025 was a difficult year after he was injured at the French Open, missed Wimbledon, and was eliminated early from the US Open, but 2026 will be a historic year for Casper. Regardless of what happens on the ATP Tour, he will become a father for the first time.
