Acapulco, Gro, 28 de febrero.- Mexico has a representative in the semifinals of Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC, Giuliana Olmos and her teammate Desirae Krawczyk advanced to the next round of the tournament.

The Mexican- American team eliminated Laura Pigossi and Yafan Wang, in two sets (6-3, 6-0).

For a ticket in the final, Olmos and Krawczyk, will face Cornelia Lister and Renata Voracova, that in turn, eliminated Tatjana Maria and Christina McHale, with a double 6-4.

In the men doubles, Santi Gonzalez and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi fought until the end, at some point it seemed that Santi and his teammate were getting the ticket to the semifinals, but they were defeated by Marc and Feliciano Lopez.

Gonzalez and Qureshi won the first set, the second set had to be define in tie break, this time Marc and Feli won the set. The final set showed the Spainards quality and skills and they turned around the score.
Marc and Feli, will now face the Zverev brothers, that in turn, eliminated the Brian twins (5-7, 6-4, 10-7)

In other results, Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal were eliminated by Austin Krajicek and Artem sitak, the score was 7-6(5), 6-4.

Marcel Granollers and Nikola Mektić eliminated Frances Tiafoe and Robert Lindstedt with a doble 6-4.

Acapulco, Gro, 28 de febrero.- The German Alexander Zverev, second seed of the tournament, defeated the Australian Alex de Minaur, advancing to the semifinals of Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC, matching his performance last year.

He didn’t have any problems with his service, being consistent always, the 21-year-old player show dominance, and the match lasted only one hour and 15 minutes. A break in the first set and were enough for him to get one step closer to the final.

His service is his main weapon. During this match Sascha scored a total of 13 aces and 91% effectiveness with his first service, leaving Alex with not many choices, he also left Brisbane in the quarterfinals.

Alexander, no. 3 in the ATP ranking, has a record of 7 wins this season, only losing to Milos Raonic in Australian Open.

He has won 4 consecutive matches against De Minaur since last year (Davis Cup, Washington and Shanghai Masters 1000). Zverev will face in the semifinals, Cameron Norrie, no. 64 of the ATP ranking.

Acapulco, Gro, 28 de febrero.- The first WTA semifinal is set, Donna Vekic and Yafang Wang will dispute the semifinal tomorrow at Caliente Grand Stand.
Vekic, no. 28 of the WTA ranking, defeated in two sets Johanna Konta, no. 45 of the WTA ranking.

Two break son the first set, were enough for Vekic to win the first set. During the second set the score was tied 5-5, but Vekic broke Konta’s service and took the advantage to close the match.

This is the sex time the players have face each other, and the record is 3-3. This is the third semifinal Vekic plays this season, after Brisbane and Saint Petersburg.

Now Donna will face Yafan Wang, no.65 in the WTA ranking, who defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia, in two sets (6-3, 6-4).

Both players showed some inconsistencies, but Yafan Wang took advantage of her rival’s weakness and took the first set. In the second set she broke twice and finally ended the match one hour and 42 minutes later.

In the previous round, Haddad Maia, surprised the audience after she left out Sloane Stephens.

Donna Vekic and Yafan Wang, will face each other for the first time in the professional circuit.

Acapulco, Gro., 28 de febrero.- Cameron Norrie is the first semifinalist of the tournament after defeating Mackenzie McDonald in two sets, the final score of the match was 6-3, 6-2.

One hour and 23 minutes were enough to finish the match and securing him a spot in the next round.

It was the first time the players faced each other in the ATP circuit, but Norrie defeated McDonald couple of times in challenger tournaments.

“It is amazing, it’s going to be my first semifinals of an ATP 500, I’m excited”, said Norrie.

At the beginning of the match both players showed inconsistency, they struggled to keep their service.

Norrie saved a break point and only 15 minutes later the score was tied.
McDonald kept struggling until he showed some consistency with his service, having a 0-40

The second set was similar, none of them were consistent enough, but Norrie took the opportunity and broke his rival’s service in the sixth game and close the match in the first match point he had.

Acapulco, Gro, February 2019: Acapulco and Grupo Pegaso through their tourism department, Mundo Imperial, announced the construction of Complejo Tenistico Mundo Imperial, that will be the official headquarters for the XXVIII edition of Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC in 2021.

The complex will offer state of the art facilities and technology for the development of the tournament.

The main stadium will be 163,192 ft2 of construction and will be able to hold 9,731 spectators. The location of the stadium will have panoramic views to both, the golf course and the beautiful beach of the destination.

The ground floor of the stadium will hold different areas: for the players gym and medical service, press room and management offices; including public and commercial areas. In the higher levels there will be a restaurant, player’s lounge and transmission area.

In addition to the main stadium, the project will have:

• Grandstand with capacity of 3,000 spectators
• Grandstand with capacity of 1,500 spectators
• 5 adjacent courts
• Parking for 800 vehicles
• Box-office
• Recreational area
• Stands and food court
• Medical Services

The Project will last an estimated time of 15 months, and will open in 2020 fall, to hold the XXVIII of Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC with an investment of 8 MD.

The stadium will be multifunctional and will also offer concerts, shows and other varieties.

Acapulco, Gro, 27 de febrero.- Despite the rough start, and struggling with food poisoning , Nick Kyrgios surprises the audience and leaves out of the tournament the all-time favorite, Rafa Nadal, in a thrilling match celebrated at Estadio Pegaso.

Rafa, no. 2 in the world, took advantage of the circumstances and clearly imposed the conditions in the first set, the score was 6-3 and Kyrgios seemed confused at the end of the first partial.

On the second set things seemed different, full of amazing points in both sides court. Nadal had many chances to break Nick’s service, but he was not willing to give up so easy, and they had to define this set in a tie break, the score of the second set was 7-2.

The last set of the match was as thrilling as the second, again Nadal had many chances to break but, Nick showed his talent and tie the score, again the set had to be defined in tie break. Nadal had three match points, but Nick won the next five points, winning the match.

In 2017, Nick also surprised by eliminating the favorite in that edition, Novak Djokovic.

At the end of the match Nadal looked sad and angry. “It’s been a weird match; a lot has happened. At some point he (Nick Kyrgios) looked in pain, but then he was perfect, today it was just not a good day for me”.

In other results, Diego Schwartzman, was left out of the tournament by Cameron Norrie who required three sets (7-6, 4-6, 6-3) and two hours and twenty minutes to leave the fourth seed of the tournament without a ticket to the quarterfinals.

Norrie took advantage of the physical discomfort his opponent showed, Diego, asked for medical assistance due to a muscle pull in the right leg. Last week, due to the same injury, Diego wasn’t able to defend his title in Rio.
In the next round, Cameron will face, Mackenzie McDonald, who on his turn, left out of the competition Frances Tiafoe.

The Young Australian, Alex De Minaur, advanced to the quarterfinal after his opponent, Feliciano López walked over the match due to food poisoning.

Acapulco, Gro, 27 de febrero.- The former no. 1 the world and double-time Australian Open champion, keeps moving forward in the tournament, this time she left out Tatjana Maria, what gave her a ticket to the quarterfinals.

The match lasted one hour and 24 minutes, and the final score was 6-2, 6-1. Azarenka showed the tennis fans the high quality of her game, she is a strong competitor and a favorite to win the tournament.
Vika faced Tatjana for the first time and is seeking the title no. 20 in her career.

“Physically I feel like my movement is really starting to pick up, I felt like my movement has been great. The execution and timing were not there so it made it felt and look inefficient and now it’s a little bit more put together, so I’m happy with the direction I’m going”, explained Azarenka.

In the next round she will face Sofia Kenin, who obtained her pass to the next round because her rival, Katie Boulder, walked over due to physical discomfort in the fifth game of the second set.

In other results, Konta left out Varvara Flink, who obtained her spot in the main draw after the qualification tournament. Konta will face in the quarterfinals, Donna Vekic.

The Canadian Bianca Andreescu, also advances to the quarterfinals after she defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu, in two sets(6-2, 7-5). She will face Saisai Zheng, who left out Timea Babos.

Yafan Wang, also secured her spot in the quarterfinals after Monica Puig walked over the match in the fifth game of the first set.

Wang will face Bia Haddad Maia, who surprised greatly after she defeated the favorite Sloane Stephens earlier this day.
