Peterson, still in big plan
Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1st.- Rebecca Peterson didnt missed any chance to get into the ain draw of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC. Now she surprised Shuai Zhang, fourth seed of the tournament and won her intwo 6-2 and 6-1 getting a ticket to the semi finals.
Peterson had three aces, four double faults and was 67 percent effective in her first service against Zhang.
Previously, the Chinese tennis player and Peterson had met once, winning it Shuai, last year in Honolulu.
Rebecca, got one of the six tickets to semis, showing she is not intimidated bye anyone, she even left out The olympic champion Monica Puig.
Peterson will face Stefanie Voegele, who gave the surprise after eliminating the first seed of the tournament, Sloane Stephens, by 6-4, 5-7 and 6-2.
Stefanie Voegele did not miss the four previous duels against Stephens, which took the victory on three occasions.
Sánchez and Zarazúa fall in the quarterfinals
Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1 .-Ana Sofía Sánchez and Renata Zarazúa say goodbye to Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, falling in doubles against Lara Arruabarrena and Arantxa Parra by 3-6 and 2-6.
Sanchez and Zarazúa could not get the awaited semifinal pass, which was taken by the Spaniards, who will now face Tatjana Maria and Heather Watson, they defeated Giuliana Olmos and Desirae Krawczyk, 4 -6, 6-4 and 10-3. With this the tournamet has no longer paticipation of any national representant.
Kaitlyn Christina and Sabrina Santamaria against Monica Puig and Sloane Stephens. The pair of Christina-Santamaria defeated tAnna Smith and Renata Voracova by 6-4 and 7-5, whereas Puig and Stephens eliminated Arantxa Rus and Dalila Jakupovic by 6-4 and 6-3.
Stephens was left out in the singles contest, sheis still un the run to get the doubles championship.
Del Potro reacts in time
Juan Martín will play for the first time in the semifinals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC
Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1st .- Juan Martin del Potro endorsed his position as one of the favorites to stay with the championshiop of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC in its XXV anniversary, after defeating Dominic Thiem,(champion of 2016’s edition) with a score of 6-2 and 7-6 (7).
“I’m happy to reach my first semifinal in Acapulco, I had ups and downs in the second set and he took advantage of it very well, it was a great match, especially the second set was complicated, but in the last points I could win”, celebrated the Argentine
Next he will face Alexander Zverev. In theprevious match between them, the victory corresponded to Delpo (Masters of Shanghai 2017), who is also playing its second semifinal of the season, after the one in Auckland. In 2017 La Torre de Tandil succumbed in the second round to Novak Djokovic.
“The match tomorrow I see it more difficult, it is a complicated picture, it is rare to play against a top ten in the quarterfinals in an ATP 500 and even more so in a semifinal I touch you with Zverev, that speaks of the good level of the tournament” he explained.
Surprisingly Del Potro, sixth seed, had an easy first round more than expected. Thiem, third favorite, resisted the attacks of Juan Martín.

Del Potro passed the test and came to serve for the game with the score 5-4. With a big turn and an error by Delpo, Thiem put it 0-30. At the next point Juan Martin sent the ball down the baseline to give away three break points to the Austrian, who missed the first, but not the next to level the score to five games per side when Del Potro crashed the ball into the net .
The fans were happy because that meant the match would go on. And the second set had to be defined in the tie break. In a give and take of breaks Thiem had the opportunity to send the match to the third, but Del Potro recovered and with a double fault was eliminated from the tournament
ANDERSON Stopped Chung
Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1. The South African Kevin Anderson is one step away from the final of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, after beating Hyeon Chung, 7-6 (5) and 6-4. This result allows him to keep on to the search for his first crown in this tournament. In 2014 lost against Grigor Dimitrov.
Anderson finished with 18 aces, plus a 70 percent first serve effectiveness that led him to victory, even saving six of seven break points against Chung, the current ATP Next Gene champion.
The first set was defined in tie break after Anderson used his powerful service that barely allowed an exchange and avoided any possibility for Hyeon to react to his game.
For the second set, the South African saved a break point with a serve that helped him to take advantage wich led him to the imminent victory.
“I really enjoy being here, tomorrow I have a good chance to fight to be in the final, that’s exciting for me. I had to work from December to have a better season. I took advantage to have a good second set to not complicate the game”, said Anderson.
Now, Kevin will face, for the second time in his career, Jared Donaldson, 21, who is playing for the first time in an ATP semifinal. Last year, both met at the Genoa Open, where Anderson won 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.
“We played last year. He has good tennis, I have to find a way to not deconcentrate or make mistakes that he can take advantage of, “explained Kevin.
Previously, Donaldson eliminated Spanish Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 6-1 in just 54 minutes.
“It’s a great start to the tournament so far, I feel like I played very well all week, and I think it has shown great maturity in my game and how much I have improved,” he said.
Tsurenko keeps defending her title.
Zverev tombs Harrison and takes out a ticket to semis
Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1.- Alexander Zverev is confident in Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC. The young German qualified for the semifinals of the tournament, by winning 6-3 and 6-1 to Ryan Harrison in 66 minutes.
“I really enjoy being on the court here, today I played very well, I’m happy with my performance. I think i make progress, with every game that goes by.I feeled better, today. It was my best game so far in the tournament and I think I can improve a little more, “Zverev said.
Harrison failed to improve his 2015 performance in Acapulco, when he reached the semifinal round, where he was eliminated by David Ferrer, champion of that year´s edition.
VOEGELE LEAVES WITHOUT OPTION STEPHENS
Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1. Sloane Stephens was eliminated in the quarterfinal round of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, by Stefanie Voegele, who defeated her in three sets: 4-6, 7-5 and 2-6, in 72 minutes of play.
Stephens started the game slowly and this situation was used by her rival to close the first set with a decisive break in the final game. For the second set, Stephenes started strong and allowed her to balance the match.
Voegele, kept pressuring on Stephens,the 2016 edition champion could not keep the intensity in the last set, although she made a monumental effort, Stefanie recovered the break twice, which allowed her to claim victory.
Stefanie, 27, had nine direct services, plus 52 percent effectiveness in her first service.
Stephens was the first seed of the contest that celebrates its XXV anniversary and to get to the quarterfinals she won over Arantxa Rus and Paulina Parmentier. While Voegele defeated the German Tatjana Maria and Maria Sakkari.
The Swiss is waiting to meet her rival, which will be the winner of the match betweenShuai Zhang and Rebeca Peterson. Sloane remains alive in the tournament in the doubles mode, which will play alongside Monica Puig.
Donaldson passes over Feliciano Lopez
Feliciano Lopez was the oldest of the eight players who reached the quarterfinals, with 37, and he faced Donaldson 22 years old, eager for victory in Acapulco, last year he fell in the qualifying round against Stefan Kozlov.
The day before, Jared won over Matthew Ebden
Lopez had unforced errors that gave Jared advantage over him and he took those chances with his best weapon, the serve. Donaldson had an incredible 100 percent effectiveness in the points he played with his first serve and got nine aces, without double faults.
Donaldson, currently ranking 59 ATP, is looking for his first final in the professional circuit, his best result, until now precisely this, as he had reached the second round in Delray Beach and Sydney, this year.
Last November Jared classified to the Next Gen Finals, showed a lot of security. Jared nullified his rival.
Lopez mentioned that at the end of the season he would analyze if he would continue his career as an athlete.
MLADENOVIC will have a second chance against TSURENKO
Acapulco, March 1s, 2018 .- Lesia Tsurenko and Kristina Mladenovic will face this afternoon at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, repeating the final last year, only this time in the quarterfinals.
Yesterday Lesia had a quiet game, against Arina Rodionova, while Kiki had a difficult match against the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Lesia has a 5-1 record over Kristina. Last year they met twice, first in the Acapulco final and then in Hertogenbosch Open. This is the perfect opportunity for Mladenovic to change the score and acquire one more victory against Lesia.
Sloane Stephens, first seed, will play against Stefanie Voegele, who can give a surprise, since she has won 3 out of 4 duels. The most in 2013, at the Luxembourg tournament, when the Swiss won in three sets. Stephens’ only win was in the Japan tournament.
Daria Gavrilova, third seed, will now face Veronica Cepede. There are no previous match between them.
Shuai Zhang, fourth favorite, will play against Rebecca Peterson, who entered through the qualification tournament. The Chinese tennis player and Peterson have met once, with triumph for Zhang, last year in Honolulu.
In 2014 Zhang retired in the semifinals of Acapulco, due to injury.
