Maria and Watson , queens of XXV anniversary

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 3 .- Tatjana Maria and Heather Watson were proclaimed champions of the XXV anniversary of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, after winning in three sets to Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria 7-5, 2-6 and 10-2.
Maria and Watson had some ups and downs, after winning the first set 7-5 they were suprised by Christian and Santamaria, who barely allowed them to win two games.
On the super tie break, Maria and Watson were 100 percent effective with their serves, to stay with the set and with this the championship, now they are proclaimed as  the doubles queens of this edition of the.
The new champions concluded with a 70 percent effectiveness with the first service, four double faults and two ace services. They also won 50 percent of the points they played on their first serve and 60 percent on returns.
The winning pair left on the road, the day before, Lara Arruabarrena and Aranxta Parra Santonja.
The winners won a prize of $ 12,300 and 280 WTA points, while the finalists won $ 6,400 and 180 WTA points.

Delpo marching steady to the final

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 2.- Juan Martín del Potro got to the final. Delpo got her place for the first time in the final of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, when he won over Alexander Zverev 6-4 and 6-2,

Del Potro is the fourth Argentinian to be placed in a final, after Juan Ignacio Chela, Agustín Calleri and David Nalbandián. Chela and Calleri lifted the trophy.

Delpo is fighting for his first title of the year.

Zverev played with a bandage on his left knee from the fifth game of the first set, when he received medical attention. “I felt a slight pain in the second game, and it was only when I jumped to serve, with the bandage I felt a little better but at the end of the second set it began to hurt more and more and in the last game I could not continue,” he said. Voegele eliminates qualy player

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 2nd. The Swiss Stefanie Voegele will play for the first time a final of a WTA tournament, after beating Rebecca Peterson 6-4, 7-6 (5) at Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC.

“It will be my first WTA final, I am very happy, first to play a semi-final and now to reach the final, Lesia is a very strong player, she won the last tournament here and we are going to see what happens tomorrow. difficult for me, but I’m very happy to have won, “Voegele said.

Stefanie, ranked 183 of WTA could not keep the intensity she had at the start of the game she was nervous of playing her second semifinal of her career.

For the second set, Stefanie remained firm in her game during decisive moments and started the second set that ended in her favor, after some unforced errors threatened to take away the victory. Finally, Voegele culminated with six aces and she won two out of four break points.

Rebecca came to the main draw of this tournament thanks to last weekend´s quali round.
After this result, Stefanie will face in the final Lesia Tsurenko, current champion of this tournament. Which will be held at 6 pm this Saturday.

On the way to the final, Voegele defeated the German Tatjana Maria, then repeated the dose with the Greek Maria Sakkari and finally the American Sloane Stephens, the first seed of the tournament.

Second final for Anderson at Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 2nd .- Kevin Anderson became, for the second time, finalist of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, after winning in three 6-3, 4-6 and 6-3 to Jared Donaldson.
Anderson goes for his fifth title of the ATP circuit and second of the year.
Kevin, fifth seed, reached his first final in Acapulco in 2014 and lost it to Grigor Dimitrov. .
Donaldson, 21, stood firm on Pegaso Stadium, but could not find a way to win Anderson´s service. He lost the first service where donaldson achieved 18 direct services, also he made three double faults. His service was consistent, which helped him win the second set, but Anderson kept fighting to get to final, the match lasted 2:21 hours.
For Jared this is the best result so far this year; he will get 180 points for playing the semifinal.
In the initial set, a break in the fourth game was enough for Kevin to take advantage and pocket that sleeve.
The start of the second set was difficult for Donaldson, for almost 10 minutes he had to work to maintain his serve, he made errors that gave Anderson several break opportunities.
In the eighth game Donaldson generated his first break opportunity and did not miss it, to take the score 5-3.  Anderson again gave up his service to match the partials and force a third set, where once again there was only one break.

One step away from claiming her crown

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 2nd. The queen keeps defending her title. Lesia Tsurenko will fight to get her second crown in Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, after beating Australia’s Daria Gavrilova 6-2, 6-4, in 106 minutes of play.
“I’m not very happy about the way I finished the game, but I won. Now I have to work with my coach on the game tomorrow to avoide making the same mistakes. I really enjoy playing in Acapulco, it’s my favorite place in the world”, said Lesia.
Gavrilova, 23, reached the semifinals of the tournament as the third seed of the tournament, but Lesia started with a 3-0 advantage in the first round, she also took advantage of two break opportunitie, she tried to find the way to overcome the marker,but unforced errors and double faults did not help her.
For the second set, Lesia, champion of 2017 edition and seventh seed of the tournament, unblanced her opponent. Daria had 10 double faults, she saved four of seven breakpoints.
 “I did not close the match the way I would have liked, I lost concentration a bit, I gave her opportunities because I made mistakes and her defensive game was in better than mine”, she explained.
With this result, the balance of played games between them is even The last occasion in which they faced  was last year in the Federation Cup, where Daria lost by 6-2 and 6-3.
Meanwhile, Tsurenko is waiting to meet her rival who will be the winner from the match between Stefanie Voegele and  Rebecca Peterson.

Heritage Award presented to Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1st.- Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, was recognized by the ATP with the Heritage Award, for its XXV anniversary, before the stellar match, played by Juan Martin del Potro vs Dominic Thiem.
Before a grand entrance, Chris Kermode, executive director and president of the ATP traveled to Acapulco to deliver this recognition to Renata Burillo, President of Grupo Pegaso.
This tournament was held for the first time in the German Club, in 1993, on a clay surface. It was played ther for six years, until 2000 when it was moved to Acapulco, where until now it has been played for 18 years uninterrupted.

For its anniversary, the tournament  integrated a unique main draw, with the inclusion of seven top ten players, which placed it as the second tournament in its category to achieve it.
Thomas Muster and David Ferrer are the top winners of the tournament, with four crowns each.
In its history, has the participation of the world’s top tennis figures, such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro, Stan Wawrinka, Grigor Dimitrov, Kei Nishikori and Richard Gasquet, among others.

The Bryan Brothers left Santi and Julio Peralta out.

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1st. Mike and Bob Bryan, former number one coupleof the ATP rankings, defeated Santiago Gonzalez and Julio Peralta, 6-3, 7-6 (2) at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC. They will now play de semifinals
The US duo has already been crowned twice in this tournament, 2002 and 2004 editions, so the result puts them in the fight to reach their third title.
Last year, the twins lost the only match they had played so far against Santiago and Julio; at the Antwerp tournament.
The champions of 2017, edition Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares eliminated Sam Querrey and Marcelo Demoliner, by 6-2 and 6-3, in 56 minutes of meeting.
A year ago, Bruno and Jaime became champions after defeating the Spanish Feliciano Lopez and John Isner, by double 6-3.
They will now face, on semifinal, Nikola Mektic and Alexander Peya, won against Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic, by 6-7 (5), 6-3 and 10-5.
The Americans Ryan Harrison and Jack Sock left out the Spanish pair formed by Feliciano and Marc Lopez, in three sets, by 6-7 (5), 6-3 and 10-5.
This is the only opportunity that Sock has to aspire for the title, since last Tuesday was eliminated from singles mode by Ernesto Escobedo.

Peterson, still in big plan

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1st.- Rebecca Peterson didnt missed any chance to get into the ain draw of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC. Now she surprised Shuai Zhang, fourth seed of the tournament and won her intwo 6-2 and 6-1 getting a ticket to the semi finals.

Peterson had three aces, four double faults and was 67 percent effective in her first service against Zhang.

Previously, the Chinese tennis player and Peterson had met once, winning it Shuai, last year in Honolulu.

Rebecca, got one of the six tickets to semis, showing she is not intimidated bye anyone, she even left out The olympic champion Monica Puig.

Peterson will face Stefanie Voegele, who gave the surprise after eliminating the first seed of the tournament, Sloane Stephens, by 6-4, 5-7 and 6-2.

Stefanie Voegele did not miss the four previous duels against Stephens, which took the victory on three occasions.

Sánchez and Zarazúa fall in the quarterfinals

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1 .-Ana Sofía Sánchez and Renata Zarazúa say goodbye to Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC, falling in doubles against Lara Arruabarrena and Arantxa Parra by 3-6 and 2-6.

Sanchez and Zarazúa could not get the awaited semifinal pass, which was taken by the Spaniards, who will now face Tatjana Maria and Heather Watson, they defeated Giuliana Olmos and Desirae Krawczyk, 4 -6, 6-4 and 10-3. With this the tournamet has no longer paticipation of any national representant.

Kaitlyn Christina and Sabrina Santamaria against Monica Puig and Sloane Stephens. The pair of Christina-Santamaria defeated tAnna Smith and Renata Voracova by 6-4 and 7-5, whereas Puig and Stephens eliminated Arantxa Rus and Dalila Jakupovic by 6-4 and 6-3.

Stephens was left out in the singles contest, sheis still un the run to get the doubles championship.

Del Potro reacts in time

Juan Martín will play for the first time in the semifinals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC

Acapulco, Guerrero, March 1st .- Juan Martin del Potro endorsed his position as one of the favorites to stay with the championshiop of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, presented by HSBC in its XXV anniversary, after defeating Dominic Thiem,(champion of 2016’s edition) with a score of 6-2 and 7-6 (7).

“I’m happy to reach my first semifinal in Acapulco, I had ups and downs in the second set and he took advantage of it very well, it was a great match, especially the second set was complicated, but in the last points I could win”, celebrated the Argentine

Next he will face Alexander Zverev. In theprevious match between them, the victory corresponded to Delpo (Masters of Shanghai 2017), who is  also playing its second semifinal of the season, after the one in Auckland. In 2017 La Torre de Tandil succumbed in the second round to Novak Djokovic.

“The match tomorrow I see it more difficult, it is a complicated picture, it is rare to play against a top ten in the quarterfinals in an ATP 500 and even more so in a semifinal I touch you with Zverev, that speaks of the good level of the tournament” he explained.

Surprisingly Del Potro, sixth seed, had an easy first round more than expected. Thiem, third favorite, resisted the attacks of Juan Martín.

In the following part an early break was enough for the Argentinean to walk calmly, despite the fact that Thiem didn´t gave up his serve.

Del Potro passed the test and came to serve for the game with the score 5-4. With a big turn and an error by Delpo, Thiem put it 0-30. At the next point Juan Martin sent the ball down the baseline to give away three break points to the Austrian, who missed the first, but not the next to level the score to five games per side when Del Potro crashed the ball into the net .

The fans were happy because that meant the match would go on. And the second set had to be defined in the tie break. In a give and take of breaks Thiem had the opportunity to send the match to the third, but Del Potro recovered and with a double fault was eliminated from the tournament
