I trust my best tennis is yet to come: Christina McHale

Acapulco, Guerrero, February 26, 2018.- Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Telcel presented by HSBC, is a tournament that suits Christina McHale. He has been a finalist once (2014) and semifinalist on a couple of occasions (2016 and 2017). But more than looking for a good result in a single tournament, the 25-year-old struggles to achieve her best tennis.

“Obviously when you start you want to win many tournaments, do it well. I have had many ups and downs, but I am struggling to achieve my best tennis. I am 25 years old and I trust that my best tennis is coming, although sometimes things do not always go as you want, ” she said.

McHale is very clear on what she needs to achieve that goal. In a quick analysis, she says that current women’s tennis is very strong. “There are a lot that play well; I’m trying to get physically stronger. I think I have lacked strength, nowadays much more attention is paid to the physical part. The mental is also important, you must stay positive, because surely there were many matches that you were about to win and they left you; to continue you must think that the following week there is another game and be ready for that “.

Six years ago she lived her best season in terms of location in the WTA ranking, reaching the 24th place in August and ending the year in the 33. In 2016 she obtained until now, her only title (Tokyo) and she is convinced that going back to the top 50 will not be easy. More has the support of your work team and your family to achieve your goals.

“This year I have not started very well, that’s why I’m happy here. I have very good memories, but obviously a difficult match awaits me [debuted against Irina-Camelia Begu]. The year I reached the final in this tournament, I was not expecting that, it came as a surprise, so that leaves me with the lesson that you should always do the best you can and be ready to take the opportunity. ”

Fan of the New York Yankees, Christina mentions that her calendar this year includes many contests, a situation that faces a positive attitude, although it is not always easy to travel every week. “I take it as an opportunity to improve every week because I always aim to win tournaments,” she says, convinced that she can scale positions and show that big shots can come out of her racket.
