Kyrgios on to the AMT final

Acapulco, Gro, 1 de marzo.- Nick Kyrgios reached the final of Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC, he will go after his fifth title.

Kyrgios, no. 72 in the ATP ranking, backed up his Acapulco wins with a 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(7) victory against third seed John Isner as Friday evening turned into Saturday morning.

Kyrgios and Zverev are even in the head2head series at 3-3, last season they played each other twice in Miami Masters 1000 and Davis Cup.

Giuliana Olmos, first Mexican to reach a final in Acapulco

Acapulco, Gro, 1 de marzo.- Giuliana Olmos made history at Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC, after getting to the WTA doubles final, with her teammate Desirae Krawczyk.

Olmos and Krawzcyk defeated in the semifinals Crnelia Lister and Renata Voracova, in two sets (7-5, 7-6(3)) during the first match at Caliente Grand Stand.

Showing great chemistry, the mexican-american doubles team, broke their rival´s serve to win the first set. The second set was even in both sides of the court, with two breaks per side, this time the set was defined in the tie break, Giuliana showed dominance with her serve.

She turned into the first mexican to get to the final of the AMT.

This is the second time the doubles team will play a final in a WTA event, last year they also got to the finals in Monterrey, where they lost to Sara Sorribes and Naomi Broady.
Giuliana Olmos, 78 in the doubles ranking, and Desirae Krawczyk, no. 50, have been playing together for two years now, this has been their best outcome yet.

“I’m really happy, I also got to the final in Monterrey, but I want to win a WTA title, this is my third final, I have experience enough. Desirae has been my teammate for two years, she is amazing, I am really proud, but we want more, we know each other very well, she is my best friend, so I trust her in the court”, said the Mexican tennis player.

During the last season, Olmos played for the first time in Wimbledon, this was her debut in a Grand Slam tournament.

“I only started playing doubles because I needed the money to play singles, but then I won 8 doubles tournaments in one year. I want to play doubles in the Olympics, I know its hard but for now i’ll enjoy the final tomorrow, let see what happens”, said Giuliana.

The other team in the final will be Victoria Azarenka and Saisai Zheng, in turn, they defeated for the ticket to the final, the pair of Sharon Fichman and Maria Sanchez.

After losing the first set in tie break and winning the second, also in tie break, Azarenka and Zheng had to play a super tiebreak to get their sport in the finals of the tournament. The final score was 6-7 (3), 6-2 y 13-11.

Azarenka, former no. 1 in the world, will play the a doubles final number 17 in her career occasion and is looking her seventh title.

Saisai Zheng, its playing a final for seventh time and is looking for the fourth title in doubles.

Zverev will face Isner or Kyrgios for the title in Acapulco

Acapulco, Gro., 1 de marzo.- Alexander Zverev is on its way to his first title of 2019, defeating Brit Cameron Norrie 7-6(0), 6-3 on Friday to reach the final of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC.

Alexander has gone one step further than last year here in Acapulco, when he lost to Juan Martín del Potro in the semi-finals in straight sets. Zverev, the second seed, has not lost a set this week, getting broken just twice through four matches, the player left out, in the way to the final, Alexei Popyrin, David Ferrer and Alex de Miñaur.

“I’m very happy to be in the final. That was the goal at the start of the week. This is so far a very special week for me and I hope I can continue it”, Zverev said.

Norrie could not reach his second ATP Tour final (Auckland earlier this year), as Zverev was too solid from the baseline. The German did not make many errors, and while Norrie battled, Zverev was never seemed under much pressure. On his way to the semifinal, Norrie (no.64 in the ATP ranking), left out Yoshihito Nishioka, Diego Schwartzman and Mackenzie McDonald. Only one year ago, he lost in the first round of Abierto Mexicano Telcel, against Dominic Thiem.

Alexander Zverev used his first serve to take the advantage, striking 10 aces and winning 81 percent of first-serve points.

Sascha won seven straight points, to win the set. The Key came in the third set when he broke his rival’s serve, the he served and Norrie crashed the ball in to the net.

Wang goes after the first title in her career

Acapulco, Gro., 1 de marzo.- Yafan Wang defeated Donna Vekic, and got the first ticket of the night to the final of Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC. The Chinese player, no. 65 the world, won in three sets (2-3, 6-3, 6-1).

This was the fifth semifinal Wang has played, and tomorrow she will seek the first title in her professional career.

Vekic and Wang played the first turn in Estadio Pegaso, this being the first time they played each other. Both players had a hard start, but Vekic won the first set.
In the second set after losing her serve in the seventh game, Vekic lashed out the racket and bursted in tears. Her coach, Torben Beltz, came in to try to reassure her, but Vekic’s disappointment was evident.

The Chinese was the first to keep her serve, and once again she broke Donna’s serve and took the match to a third set.

Vekic could not find the focus and gave the serve again. In this set she was only able to win a game, and Wang won one hour and 50 minutes.

Isner and Kyrgios will face in the semifinals of AMT

Acapulco, Gro, 28 de febrero.- In the early hours of Friday morning, moments after beating John Millman 7-6(2), 6-7(4), 7-6(4), John Isner took the last ticket to the semifinals of Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC.

Isner had a tough start with many unforced errors, which allowed Millman to take a 5-3 advantage, but with his powerfull service Isner made the score even and forced the set to tie break.

During the second set, no one was willing to give up their service, again the players had to play tie break, this time Millman won.

The third set also ended in the tie break, and Isner finally took the spot in the semifinals, the match lasted a little more htan three hours.

Isner fired down 38 aces in the final match of the day, saving two set points at 3-5, 15/40 in the first set of his victory over eighth seed Millman in three hours and six minutes in Estadio Pegaso.

The third-seeded Isner will now play Nick Kyrgios on Friday. The head2head is even at 2-2. “We’ve played a handful of times, I’ve seen his matches this week,” said Isner. “I’ve won a couple, he’s won a couple. He’s an incredible talent, everyone knows that. So it will be a fun match.”

The las time the faced, was in the 2017 Davis Cup, were Kyrgios won the match.

Giuliana Olmos, moving forward in the doubles tournament

Acapulco, Gro, 28 de febrero.- Mexico has a representative in the semifinals of Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC, Giuliana Olmos and her teammate Desirae Krawczyk advanced to the next round of the tournament.

The Mexican- American team eliminated Laura Pigossi and Yafan Wang, in two sets (6-3, 6-0).

For a ticket in the final, Olmos and Krawczyk, will face Cornelia Lister and Renata Voracova, that in turn, eliminated Tatjana Maria and Christina McHale, with a double 6-4.

In the men doubles, Santi Gonzalez and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi fought until the end, at some point it seemed that Santi and his teammate were getting the ticket to the semifinals, but they were defeated by Marc and Feliciano Lopez.

Gonzalez and Qureshi won the first set, the second set had to be define in tie break, this time Marc and Feli won the set. The final set showed the Spainards quality and skills and they turned around the score.
Marc and Feli, will now face the Zverev brothers, that in turn, eliminated the Brian twins (5-7, 6-4, 10-7)

In other results, Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal were eliminated by Austin Krajicek and Artem sitak, the score was 7-6(5), 6-4.

Marcel Granollers and Nikola Mektić eliminated Frances Tiafoe and Robert Lindstedt with a doble 6-4.
